Some things just get better with age-like wisdom, craftsmanship, and the stories that shape a lifetime.
Wax and Woodworks is a celebration of second acts, creativity, and the belief that the best stories aren't just told-they're carved and poured. Founded by two lifelong craftsmen, each piece we create is a tribute to time-honored skills and simple, beautiful craftsmanship.

Our candles-think driftwood, sandalwood, and an unmistakable hint of the '60s--bring warmth and nostalgia to any space. Our handcrafted wooden goods, from cutting boards to keepsakes, honor the natural beauty of hardwood, each grain telling its own story.

No mass production just quality craftsmanship and timeless charm.

Come by, take in the scents, run your hands over the wood, and take home something made with time, care, and a bit of old-school magic.

The Wax

My name is Ed Christison. I was a hippie throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. During that time, I hitchhiked across the US which is where I was first exposed to free-form candle making. I began to make candles for a couple of years and then was unable to continue due to the business of life. I picked up candle making again around 40 years ago while my four children were growing up, and about 5 years ago, I was able to build a barn which has allowed me to continue my candle making with all the space I need. I have spent a lot of time hiking beside the water, so some of the candles I craft are made from a sand and wax casting and embedded with driftwood that I've collected along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Each candle is carefully and uniquely molded and poured so no two candles I make are the same. With my 30 grandchildren, my motorcycle, traveling, and making candles, I find most of my joy.

The Woodwork

My name is Mike Dawkins. I grew up on a farm in Kenton County, KY. On our farm, we had great respect for our land and trees and often farmed around walnut and cherry trees. I carry this appreciation with me to this day.
In Jr High and High School, I took wood shop classes and learned rudimentary woodworking skills. After building a log cabin, on a remnant of our original farm in 2000, I started woodworking in my basement, mainly turning bowls on a lathe.
My wood bowls are mainly cherry and walnut that are turned from trees harvested from my property.

The bowls are typically harvested in the winter (when the sap isn’t running to help the bark maintain a strong bond), rough turned and stored in their own shavings as the moisture slowly decreases to a point they can be turned into finished bowls. This is typically a process that takes up to a year since they must dry very slowly to eliminate cracks. Most bowls are sealed with oil and waxed.
Along with turned bowls, I also make cutting boards from wood procured from sources other than my land. These cutting boards are mainly maple, cherry and walnut. With some exotic species used for trims. I mainly make end grain cutting boards as this is the preferred type desired by chefs and home cooks, since end grain is easier to maintain a sharp knife. All cutting boards are sealed and waxed utilizing “Walrus Oil” products.
